type, sensitivities and the type of manual exfoliation used it can be done a couple times a week. The use of scrubs, brushes, Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning are all effective types of manual exfoliation. So can you freely use any type of scrub or brush? The answer is NO! When picking the right scrub or brush be sure to choose something that isn't jagged, too large, or bristles are too stiff. These types can unfortunately cause small tears in the skin. That is something you don't want!
Chemical exfoliation is exactly what is sounds like, the use of chemicals to turn over skin cells. There are many different peels on the market these days, you just need to find the right one for you and right Esthetician who understands your skin and what you are trying to accomplish. You can also use fruit enzymes or more commonly known as enzyme peels to lightly breakup and remove the outer most layer of the epidermis. Depending upon the type of chemical or enzyme used you may have to wait weeks in between treatments.
So what can exfoliation do for your skin? Lets make a list!
1. Pigmentation - exfoliating helps break up pigmentation on the skin and helps lighten and brighten.
2. Anti-aging - removing dead skin cells and increasing blood flow to the skin helps fight the aging process.
3. Acne - helping remove and turn over the skin cells more frequently can help with reducing build-up and breakouts.
4. Dry Skin - exfoliating can greatly help with dry skin and flaky skin. Removing the dead skin cells can allow the skin to absorb more hydration from products.
5. Glowing Skin - dull skin can appear when exfoliation isn't being performed. Remove dead skin cells, bring out the healthy cells and let the glowing skin begin!
Now, if you are the type of person who is looking for a different kind of treatment and exfoliation we have the perfect treatment for you! This is definitely a client favorite and your skin will be soft for weeks.
There is one final important thing to remember when exfoliating....sunscreen! You need to protect the new skin cells from sun damage, so be sure to wear sunscreen daily.
Most people have a love-hate relationship with the big, bright yellow ball in the sky. They love the warm feeling of the sun on their skin. They also love the happiness pill that comes along with sun exposure. However, people also hate sun damage, sunburns, and the potential for skin cancer. Understandably! What kind of damage does the sun cause? We see sun damage in the form of premature aging and sun spots mostly, but these are things Skin Mechanixx can help you with.
The question that we have been getting is, "how do you safely get sun exposure?" Many people love the affects they get from being in the sun as well as the Vitamin D they receive. What they don't realize is they can still get those benefits while wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen helps protect the skin from damage and helps prevent skin cancer.
Here are some tips:
If you are the type of person who hides from the sun completely, we also understand where you are coming from. It is suggested that you have your blood work done at the doctor's office when they tell you it's time to see where your level of Vitamin D is at. Your body needs Vitamin D and one of the best sources is the sun. Vitamin D helps keep your bones strong and if your levels are low you can deal with some issues down the road. There are other ways to get Vitamin D if you are not getting it from the sun. Supplements and certain foods can provide Vitamin D if you need it. Foods such as fatty fish, egg yolks, milk and beef liver can help you, but most people find it easier to just take a supplement daily.
A good rule of thumb is that sun exposure is OK in small amounts, but don't over do it! Just remember even though you are protecting yourself with sunscreen that doesn't mean you aren't being negatively affected by the sun. So keep in mind the length of time you are in the sun, using shade when possible and re-applying your sunscreen.
Here is a wonderful article that really digs into all aspects of sun exposure, sun damage and Vitamin D.
Two well known terms in the hair removal industry are Laser and IPL, but do you understand what they really do? We know there is much confusion when it comes to these terms and which is better for treatments so here is the short and sweet answer.
Laser produces a single wavelength of light that is concentrated and has a specific target. Using the correct settings, all skin types can be treated with laser and results can be seen in a quicker time frame. Laser is usually a bit more expensive, but with fewer treatments needed the price equals out between the treatments.
IPL produces a broad spectrum of wavelengths that spread across a treated area. With a non-concentrated beam the treatments can take a longer time frame to see results if any. IPL is also not suggested for people with darker skin tone. Since the beam is spread across the surface it can target the pigment of the skin and not the hair and result in skin burns. IPL treatments are typically cheaper per treatment to have done, but take more treatments for results.
Which is right for you? Do you want more effective treatments? Do you want results in a shorter time frame? Laser is the way to go!
It seems that we have many new followers or some people that don't know exactly what happened to us. So I wanted to fill everyone in! May 8th, 2017 an extremely large hail storm swept through the Denver Metro area causing a lot of storm damage. Unfortunately our business was one of the ones that was affected. We had major roof damage that caused water to get into the building and damage some of our things. While we had hoped to continue in the same location, it didn't turn out the way we wished it would. The building had no definite answers on when it would be open for business again, so we had to move. It was a very stressful time, but while we moved we were able to have our equipment inspected, cleaned and brought back up to spec. Now we are back and our doors are open! We had so many people who offered love and support while others offered to come and literally help us mop up water if we needed it. For that kindness we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We completely felt your love and we would like to say thank you for standing by us, so until August 31st we will be offering 20% off all treatments and new package purchases.
With hair removal being a topic of discussion daily I am sure you have heard the terms Laser Hair Removal and IPL. Are they the same thing? Which one is best for your treatment?
The short answer is: they are not the same and one is much more effective than the other. Laser emits one single wavelength of light for a concentrated effect while IPL emits various wavelengths that can be spread over the surface of the skin. Using IPL can make treatments take longer and perhaps not provide the results you were looking for. One other thing to consider is that IPL is not safe for all skin types and should definitely not be used on tan or darker skin.
What does this mean for you? It means that Laser Hair Removal would be the better choice for effective treatments that can take less time. Also if you have darker or naturally tan skin, you can feel comfortable using our laser since we can implement a longer wavelength for safety.
If you have any questions about treatments or how laser works please just ask.
